Love locks in Paris

The love locks or Cadenas d’Amour that have been tied to the parapets’ grids of the Pont des Arts, Passerelle Léopold Senghor or Pont de l’Archevêché have become the new iconic image of the Romantic Paris!



In 2008 Parisian lovers and foreign tourists visiting Paris started the tradition of writing their names with a love message and the date on a padlock, then tie it on the parapets’ grids of the bridge and throw the key into the Seine, sealing their love forever.



It is believed that the tradition originated long ago in Asia where it is still widely practiced as attested in Huangshan in China, in Niigata in Japan or in Korea where love locks make entire sections of wall.
