The Journées du Patrimoine – Heritage Days take place on the third weekend of September.

Study of the French President in the Elysees Palace
The Journées du Patrimoine were created in 1984 by the Ministry of Culture and are since held annually during the third weekend of September.

More than fifteen thousand historic sites and monuments are open to the public for just two days.
This is a wonderful opportunity to discover places normally closed to the public.

The Palais de l'Elysée, the Senate in the Luxembourg Palace, various ministries and foreign embassies located in the beautiful mansions of the Faubourg Saint Germain, the National Assembly, the Palais Matignon or the Banque de France are among the most popular visits.

This year the Saint-Jacques Tower on Rue de Rivoli near the Place du Chatelet will also be open to the public.

Each year about 11-12 million visitors attend this major cultural event throughout the whole of France.

In Paris many visitors get up at dawn to start queuing at 6:00am! They wait patiently for 2-3 hours on average.
Those who get up later will most likely be queuing for as long as 4, 5 or even 6 hours but they will all tell you that the wait is long, but worth it!
